Ethical Fashion with forte forte

Ethical fashion. What is that? Where can we find it? How can we be sure that it's ethical in every single way possible? Many journalists and bloggers are trying to figure out which brands in the fashion industry can be trusted, and be labeled as "ethical", "eco" or "sustainable". It's a tough job you guys, seriously! Lately, I've been reading a lot of articles on what alternatives in the fashion and beauty industry are better for the environment. A lot of good content out there. Many different points of view and all have some kind of a point, yes. But what has stuck in my mind after reading a whole bunch of researches is this: "At this level."

This article by The Guardian is trying to figure out if synthetic perfumes are a better, eco-friendlier alternative to the real deal. To make a long story short: the amount of essential oil that is required to satisfy the supply for perfumes will have drastic effects on nature. So in order not to exhaust natural resources, it's better to go with synthetic fragrances.

Maybe it's just me, but I have never, ever, ever seen a somewhat empty perfume shelve at any perfumery, ever. This brings me to this question: maybe it's not about A or B, maybe it's about the AMOUNT of either? Producing tons of synthetic fragrances will maybe not destroy as many flowers, but it will for sure have an equally negative effect in some other part of the production process. Don't you think? Or, if not in the production process, then maybe during or after its lifespan.

Anywhooo, I'm no expert and I have about .. zero point zero clue on how a perfume is made, natural or synthetic. I do know this: overproduction and overconsumption are the opposite of sustainability.

Yo, girl, what's with the shirt if you talk about perfumes?

Scuzi for the long intro, but otherwise I wouldn't have been able to make my point.

So, the moment I decided to become a more conscious consumer, I went through my closet and checked what I had been buying for the last 2 or 3 years. One of the most recent ones is a total winner: the oversized shirtdress by forte_forte.

You can scan their site in search for the words "ethical", "eco" or "conscious" all you want but you won't find them. Not every brand discloses (or advertises) its good practices or ethical choices. Some just do it automatically and don't feel the need to shout about it.

What makes forte_forte a brand you can purchase from with an ease of mind? I see three things:

It's a whole Italian affair! The founders of the brand, Giada and Paolo, are designing and producing the entire collection from their hometown in Veneto. Trust me when I tell you this: Italy is not a tax heaven nor is it a cheap manpower supplier. If you want to do business in Italy, it will cost ya! So, what do I read between the lines here? forte_forte is not purely a cost driven business. There is passion. There is value. Value for tradition and artisanry.

Not too much. forte_forte is also not into mass production. Their pieces are elegant and simple which makes them easy to combine with many other things you probably already have. Limited collections, focusing on quality rather than quantity. Yes, I like that.

And this is the point I was trying to make when I brought up the article on perfumes: it's not just about raw material A or raw material B, it's about the QUANTITY of it. Easing up on the supply might also be a way towards sustainability.

See you in ten! Maybe it's just me but I feel like this pale pink, masculine vibed, versatile, gorgeous piece of pure cotton is something I will be able to wear when I'm 35. It's timeless. Timeless fashion is durable fashion. Durable fashion is sustainable fashion. Sustainable fashion is the future!

THE FRESH ISSUE|Ethical Fashion with Forte Forte Coco Beach Lonato del Garda

Last Sunday I decided I would wear the shirtdress by forte_forte as a cover-up with my 90's inspired, lace trimmed, one-piece swimsuit I've had for ages. Did you hear about Baywatch making a comeback, in 2017, starring Zac Efron? Just sayin'...

We went to Coco Beach in Lonato Del Garda. A nice little beach club where you can relax to some chillout & house tunes, have a bottle of bubblies and let vitamin D do its work. Even though it was about 29 degrees Celcius, it was way too cold to swim. I'll try again in June.

Keep you posted!
